This week’s Meet the Market feature takes us to Duanesburg, NY, where Honey House Meadery is turning their homegrown honey into something special. Bill Green started the business out of a love for both beekeeping and home brewing — and now his handcrafted meads and infused honey products are a favorite at our farmers market. Read on to learn more about the story behind the mead and the bees.
What do you sell at the market?
A variety of seasonal meads, many honey products and infused honey as well as oxymels.
When and how did your business get started?
What started out as a hobby, soon became a passion. Beekeeping has always been fascinating to me. Home brewing is something I have always dabbled in. What better way to combine these two interests? After several years of working in finance, I decided to take flight and hit the countryside. In 2018 my wife and I opened Green Apiaries, LLC and in 2021, we became licensed as a NYS Farm Meadery and Honey House Meadery was born. We’re located in Duanesburg, NY. We keep an apiary of honeybees and harvest the wildflower honey our bees produce. From this honey we hand craft our small batch craft meads.
What’s your favorite product you offer and why?
Our Meads, because it is always exciting to get feedback when we introduce new flavors.
What’s something people might not know about your business or products?
All of our products are produced using the honey we harvest from our own bees located on our farm in Duanesburg, NY.
What do you love most about being part of our Farmers Market?
Meeting new people, hearing how they use our products, and supporting other local vendors. We enjoy sourcing as many products as possible from other vendors at the market.
